Technical & startup consultation

Most startup advice
ends in “it depends.”
Mine ends with
an execution plan.

Stuck on what or how to build, who to hire, how to split equity, or need a technical deep dive? Book a session and walk away with a specific answer for your exact situation.

Who you're talking to

Hi, I'm Taha. AKA The Brown Cowboy. 🤠

I've built sophisticated software for 20 years and run companies since 2008. I've built for small startups, where I grew teams from first engineer to 50+, all the way up to the Fortune 100, where I managed a third of Apple's and half of Microsoft's global domains.

I built the world's first zero carbon footprint race ticketing and management system for National Geographic, as the project CTO. I scaled my last startup, Ferrum Network, to $11 million in revenue, with technology that helped our clients transact over $138 million through our infrastructure.

Now I'm building AskFlorence and supporting the Silicon Slopes community with my expertise.

What I can help you with

Two kinds of questions, asked every week.

Technology

I need something built.

Does the technology even exist to support my idea?

I need my architecture validated.

I don’t know where to start. Can I build it myself? Do I hire a developer, a team, or a vendor?

If it touches software or systems, I can help you figure it out.

Business, formation & compliance

How do I create a startup? LLC, C-Corp, or B-Corp? Local or Delaware? What is the cost-effective way to do it?

How do I split equity with my co-founders?

What do I do when the work delivered does not match the equity granted?

I've lived through these across about a dozen companies, as a founder, executive, or board member.

How I work

Specific, applicable advice. Not generic hypotheticals.

Do you hate when you ask about a specific problem and get a hypothetical answer that leaves you more confused than before you asked? Yeah, me too. Instead of generic “it depends” non-answers, I tailor my guidance to your specific use case, based on real experience, insight, and data.

A few examples of the kind of answers I give. Your situation could be entirely different, these just show the shape of a real, useful answer.

Equity split

How should we split equity, and what if a co-founder doesn’t deliver on their share?

How I'd help

I help you map each co-founder's real contributions into a weighted model that suggests a fair split, then we put it next to a clean 50/50 so you can see both. The weights might call for 80/20. You make the final call yourself, backed by data instead of a gut guess.

Formation & cost

How do I set up the company without burning cash before revenue?

How I'd help

I show you how you can stand up a temporary entity for about $60 instead of thousands, and why that can be a good option right now. Then convert to a Delaware C-Corp only if a venture raise actually calls for it, with stock allocation and the employee option pool handled right.

Tech stack

What should I build this on, and will the stack hold up as we grow?

How I'd help

I help you map your real requirements to a concrete architecture, walk the tradeoffs of each option, and see what scales versus what would box you in. You leave with a stack you can defend to a technical hire or an investor.

Build vs hire

Do I even need a team yet, or can I build this myself with AI?

How I'd help

I show you what you can realistically ship solo with agentic tools like Claude Code, and where a human hire actually pays for itself. When it is time to hire or sign a vendor, I help you dodge the usual traps: the wrong first hire, vague scopes, and contracts that lock you in or leave you owning none of the code.

Security & payments

Is my app secure, and what does taking payments safely actually require?

How I'd help

We run a practical audit: where the real risk sits, what PCI scope you can avoid with the right processor, and the specific fixes that matter before you take a single card.

HIPAA compliance

What would it actually take to get HIPAA compliant so I can sell into healthcare?

How I'd help

The real path: the agreements to sign, the infrastructure to use, and how to get compliant in days now instead of weeks later. It comes from running my own startup on the same HIPAA and security posture as Healthcare.gov.

The process

I respect the time you book. So I do the prep work first.

1

You book a session.

Pick a time at the end. That is the only step that needs your calendar.

2

You get a short intake form.

It walks you through exactly what I need to understand your business and where you are stuck.

3

You dump what you already have.

A pitch deck, a business plan, a Google Doc, a Word file, whatever format it is in. For technical work, your GitHub repo. Do not polish it. I am not judging it, and I am not an investor.

4

I do the prep work before we meet.

I ingest everything into my systems and formulate a plan, so I already understand your world by the time we talk.

5

We spend our time on answers.

Not introductions. For every hour you book, I put in roughly the same amount of prep on my side.

A recent win

From a cold post to “let's get lunch,” in a day.

A first-time founder posted in the Silicon Slopes community. A big vision, an AI-assisted idea, and, in his words, almost no software development experience. He was looking for mentors.

I reached out. He sent over his executive summary. Within 24 hours I sent back a full review: where his original technical approach would hit walls and the one I'd chase instead, the off-the-shelf hardware that could make it real and what it would cost, the market evidence, and how I'd build the team to ship it. Not a call of “it depends.” A specific, written formulation he could act on.

“I am absolutely flattered over the detail you spent in this analysis. I'm so grateful for your input. Let's set up a lunch.”A first-time founder, Silicon Slopes

A pattern of trust.

“I would take a 50% pay cut to work with him again. His 90 day plan and SWOT analysis were so well done that you'd think he had been with us 6 months already.”

I will always remember the looks that were shared around the table between me and the executives after Taha left his interview to be CTO at Evelar. I'm trying to find the words for how inspiring it was to see someone so fine-tuned and accomplished as him. Taha's preparedness, knowledge and skills were astonishing. Being the one who worked closest with him on the team, he truly over-delivered on the ever-high expectations he set with the team. Anybody would be crazy to not hire Taha, and I would take a 50% pay cut to work with him again.

“He settled into his role with alarming ease, turning long-brewing dilemmas into simple matters of time.”

It wasn't long after Taha joined the Evelar team that the company's productivity began to rapidly improve. A brilliant but slogged down technical team finally had space to breathe and prioritize. He settled into his role with alarming ease, turning long-brewing dilemmas into simple matters of time. His Agile methodology and no-nonsense mindset made him an invaluable asset. I certainly recommend Taha to any organization trying to build a culture of improvement.
