Kia EV4 GT Electric Hot Hatch Spotted Driving for the First Time: What We Know | Taha Abbasi

Taha Abbasi Kia EV4 GT electric hot hatch first drive spotted analysis

Taha Abbasi keeps a close eye on the performance EV segment, and Kia just revealed something exciting: the EV4 GT electric hot hatch has been spotted driving in public for the first time. After opening orders earlier this month in Korea, real-world images from Autospy and video from HealerTV show the compact performance EV in both hatchback and fastback configurations, and it looks ready to shake up the segment.

This is Kia’s first electric hot hatch — and it represents a growing trend of automakers bringing genuine driving enthusiasm to the EV world.

The Specs That Matter

The EV4 GT packs a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain combining a 145 kW (194 hp) front motor and a 70 kW (94 hp) rear motor. Combined output is 215 kW (288 hp) with maximum torque of 468 Nm (345 lb-ft). Powered by an 81.4 kWh battery, it accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds.

While Kia has not yet released official WLTP range figures, the standard EV4 GT-Line hatchback is rated at up to 582 km (362 miles). The GT variant with its AWD powertrain and sportier tuning will likely offer slightly less range — perhaps 320-340 miles — which is still excellent for a performance-oriented compact EV.

Inside the Cabin

The EV4 GT features GT-exclusive interior touches including semi-bucket sports seats, a three-spoke steering wheel, and a dedicated GT interface on the infotainment system. It also includes a Virtual Gear Shifter (VGS) that simulates gear changes for a more engaging driving experience, and an Active Sound System (e-ASD) similar to what Hyundai uses in the IONIQ 5 N.

These features address one of the most common criticisms of performance EVs: that they feel too clinical and lack the sensory feedback that makes driving fun. Kia is clearly targeting enthusiasts who want EV performance without sacrificing the emotional connection to driving.

Where It Fits in Kia’s EV GT Lineup

The EV4 GT is one of three electric GT vehicles Kia unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show in January 2026, alongside the EV3 GT and EV5 GT. With the existing EV9 GT, Kia now offers a high-performance EV in virtually every segment — from the subcompact EV3 GT to the three-row EV9 GT.

As Taha Abbasi notes, this is a smart strategy. By offering GT variants across the lineup, Kia creates halo products that generate excitement and media coverage while giving buyers in every segment a performance option. It is the same playbook that BMW has used with M cars and Mercedes with AMG — but electrified.

The Competition

The electric hot hatch segment is heating up. The EV4 GT will compete against the Volkswagen ID.2 GTX (when it arrives), the upcoming MINI Cooper Electric in its sportier variants, and potentially a hot version of the Chevy Bolt if GM goes that route. In the broader performance EV space, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N and the Polestar 2 BST Edition represent upper-tier options, though both are significantly more expensive.

Taha Abbasi sees the EV4 GT as particularly compelling because of its price point. In Korea, the EV4 GT launches at roughly $37,000 equivalent — making it one of the most affordable performance EVs available anywhere. If Kia brings it to the US at a similar price (adjusted for market), it could be a genuine volume seller.

US Availability

Here is the catch: Kia has not confirmed US availability for the EV4 GT or the standard EV4. The company delayed US plans for the EV4 due to tariffs and policy uncertainty. However, with the car now in production and being tested on public roads, a US launch is likely a matter of when, not if.

Taha Abbasi will be tracking the EV4 GT’s global rollout and will provide full coverage when US pricing and availability are announced. For performance EV enthusiasts on a budget, this is one to watch.
