While Tesla ended one-time FSD purchases, Taha Abbasi reports a single loophole remains. The Luxe Package on Model S, Model X, and Cyberbeast still bundles FSD for the vehicle’s life — the last path around subscription-only pricing.
Tesla’s premium bundle includes Full Self-Driving, free Supercharging at 75,000+ locations, free Premium Connectivity, and a four-year premium service package. Tesla raised Model S and Model X prices by $10,000 to account for the value. The Cyberbeast, top-tier Cybertruck, also includes it standard. As Taha Abbasi noted at launch, this was Tesla strategically adding value to flagship vehicles while transitioning FSD to subscriptions.
Here’s the catch: Tesla updated Luxe Package terms to specify FSD is not transferable to subsequent owners. If you buy a used Model S with Luxe Package, FSD stays with the original owner’s Tesla account. As Taha Abbasi has warned, Tesla’s ability to remotely control software creates a unique used car dynamic. A $100,000+ vehicle can lose tens of thousands in software value upon resale.
Want FSD without a monthly subscription? Your choices are limited:
For everyone else — Model 3, Model Y, standard Cybertruck — it’s $99/month or nothing.
Tesla’s move makes strategic sense. A one-time $8,000 purchase captured revenue once. A $99/month subscription generates $1,188/year — break-even in under seven years with indefinite profit after. Taha Abbasi believes this transition ultimately benefits consumers too: subscriptions lower the barrier to entry and let owners try FSD without massive upfront commitment. The key is pricing — at $99/month, most owners aren’t biting.
The Luxe Package loophole won’t last forever. If you want lifetime FSD without subscriptions, the window is closing.
